Yep, you can theoretically beat Chrono Trigger in under 22 minutes without needing New Game +. You all know what it means for a run of a game to be tool-assisted, right?
Watch it here, and try to understand how it works by reading the author’s comments.
I don’t fully understand it myself, but it involves resetting while the game is saving to corrupt your file. This unltimately results (skip first few minutes of video) in tons of copies of items, which, thanks to memory overflow, lets you directly alter other memory values by messing with your inventory.
Oh, and the trick to beat Lavos at such a low level is a completely different glitch: If the only living party member is revived by the Greendream accessory (or the Lifeline triple tech, I guess), the game may randomly consider your character dead while still allowing you to act. If you try to use an item when there are no "living" party members, you'll instead be able to use the item on enemies. And it just so happens that an Elixer will overflow Lavos's HP to negatives, resulting in a OHKO.
Personally, I’m not too hot on corrupting save files by resetting when you’re not supposed to, but I can’t help but admire the technical knowledge that inchi has of this game. Also, there are several hillarious moments in the video.
