Really I just have one question but felt it necessary to make a thread to acquire to other minor questions that wouldn’t be necessarily thread worthy.
Spoilers: I kinda killed Magus with Frog (one on one) by the end of the story. Is there anyway to still get him to join your team? I’ve gotten scythes and kinda concluded I get him. Either way I’m at “The Fated Hour” portion of the game and am just wondering how to get him. So far I’ve only been able to kill the first form of Lavos (get into the shell) and I get killed right off the bat each time (last about 3, maybe 4 turns). I think he’d be useful.
Also can someone give me some tips to fighting Lavos? I’d prefer to keep my current team (Crono, Marle, and Ayla) but I could change. Specially since it appears physical attacks wouldn’t be necessary through the last battles.
Also can you explore after you defeat Lavos? I’ve done a little and am wondering if I could continue with the Reptite stuff and maybe go through the Black Omen.
One More thing, I’d love it if someone could direct me to a more chrono trigger oriented forum.
Once you kill Magus on the cape in 12,000 BC, that’s it; he’s dead. You’ll have to get him on your team in another run through the game, unfortunately.
Is there any form of Lavos in particular that you’re struggling with? I’m sorta new to Chrono Trigger as well, but I’ve found the best way to beat him is have Crono spam Luminaire and just make sure you have someone on your team with good healing techniques. Obviously, you’re going to want to bring a lot of MP recovering items as well. However, if anyone has some better strategies, feel free to jump in and throw ’em out here.
And yeah, you can still do stuff after Lavos, be it through a New Game+ or just simply loading up your old file.

I am still working on my strategy, but so far I have planned to use a crono, lucca, and robo team.
Crono has massive physical power, and some strong magic, same with lucca. Robo has some good healing, and a high offense and defense.
crono and lucca are battlers, while robo heals, and occasionally attacks. I haven’t actually tested it yet however. I am still leveling up my party
You see, I had an uncle named Stewie, and he used to sell bicycles.
I’m having trouble with the it as soon as I enter the shell. First form of the true Lavos. The gates of Oblivion make it difficult to effectively recover. I know if I’m able to get to take out the right arm (my perspective) I’ll be able to kill it with a few triple attacks but until then I’m stuck. My current strategy, train by doing other tasks and killing blood yolks until I get everyone to level 50 or something. Then I’m hoping I’ll have like 999 health and be able to with stand the first hit or two to the point I can have Marle or Ayla (probably Ayla) heal everyone continuously with hi-potions and mid-ether (currently have about 50 or each). Of course after I train I’ll get money and buy some more ether but that’s after I train. So far my parties at like level 45 or 46 so it shouldn’t take me longer than half an hour to an hour to get to 50. I might do it tonight or tomorrow. Eventually.
My team in the final battle was Marle, Ayla, and Frog, around level 50. Marle can use Haste to make everyone quicker. Ayla and Frog can use Dino Tail and Frog Squash (SNES version names – dunno if they changed them in the DS version) when they HPs are critical and can inflict massive damage. Also, the Double Cure Dual Tech is useful when I want to recover everyone’s HPs, but I didn’t use it much because that would ruin Dino Tail and Frog Squash’s attack power. Instead I just keep using Marle to heal herself or perform offensive Dual Techs with Frog when his HPs were not low enough, and reviving Frog or Ayla.
If you want some advice on the second true form…
Get rid of the left Bit, it can recover the core exactly 1,000 HPs. Then attack the right Bit when a message appears indicating that its defensive power went down. Beware of the core’s attacks, they can change depending on the background. Also, the right Bit has about 30,000 HPs, so destroying it may take a while, but it is necessary, because it can revive both the core and the right Bit when both are out (if both Bits are alive while the core is dead, they will perform some attack similar to X-Strike). So, Keep in mind that the right thing is the real target.
TT: In some cultures the persistent refusal of a lady’s invitation to play a game with her would be a sign wanton disrespect.

This right here is probably why you’re having trouble with Lavos. Do the Omen now and you’ll get lots of experience and quality gear, which will make the big L much more doable.
